BOONTON TWP. A woman brought drugs into police headquarters while turning herself in on prior drug-related charges, police said.

At about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 2, police conducted a traffic stop on Rockaway Valley Road, pulling over Kathleen Ackerly, 41, of Rockaway, Sgt. Thomas Cacciabeve said.

Police called in the Morris County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, and developed probable cause indicating there were narcotics in the vehicle, Cacciabeve said.

Police seized the vehicle and obtained a search warrant, at which time they located several large Tupperware containers filled with marijuana in the vehicle along with multiple articles of drug paraphernalia, Cacciabeve said.

Police then attempted to find Ackerly and charge her for the drug possession on Sept. 3, eventually speaking with her on the phone, at which point she volunteered to turn herself in at police headquarters, Cacciabeve said.

Ackerly arrived at police headquarters that night and had another Tupperware container filled with marijuana in her purse, which she brought into the station, Cacciabeve said.

Ackerly was then charged with an additional count of possession of marijuana, on top of the one she was turning herself in for, Cacciabeve said.

She was processed and released pending a court appearance.
