Police Blotter: Party in Mt. Olive; Heroin residue in Hackettstown;

HACKETTSTOWN

•At 10:12 p.m. on Thursday, an officer initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle on Liberty Street for a moving violation. While the officer was talking to the driver, Christian Hidalgo-Gallegos, 23, of Hackettstown, the officer detected the odor of raw marijuana and also detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. There were two open bottles of beer in the front area of the vehicle. Gallegos also had in his possession four small baggies containing trace amounts of suspected marijuana and a metal marijuana smoking pipe. He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in school zone, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, being an unlicensed driver, reckless driving, careless driving, speeding and having an uninsured motor vehicle. Christian was released pending a court appearance.

•At 9:04 p.m. on April 1, Danielle Mohan, 21, of Washington, was stopped in Municipal Lot 3 by an officer who knew that Mohan had warrants for her arrest. Mohan also had in her possession a hypodermic needle, a metal spoon with suspected heroin residue and a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana. Mohan was charged with possession of a hypodermic needle, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of under 50 grams of marijuana before being released on the warrants and the drug charges pending court appearances.

•At 12:04 p.m. on Monday, police received a report that two gasoline generators, each valued at $500, were stolen from a residence on the 100 block of Nancy Lane. The ensuing investigation determined that Ryan Boyle, 23, of Hackettstown, stole the generators and then sold them on March 24 to the Gotta Have It store on Main Street. Boyle was charged with theft of movable property with bail set at $4,000.

MADISON

•At 12:10 a.m. on March 29, Patrolman Bart Glab arrested Ryan Virnan, 21, of Hollis, after he stopped a vehicle on Brittin Street that Virnan was riding in as a passenger. While gathering the driver’s credentials the odor of marijuana was detected from inside the vehicle. Glab was able to determine that Virnan was in possession of the suspected marijuana. Virnan was charged with possession of marijuana less that 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Virnan was released on his own recognizance pending his appearance in the Madison Municipal Court.

•At 3:27 a.m. on March 29, Patrolman Spiro Milonas arrested Christopher Harvey, 22, of Chatham, after police responded to Drew University on a reported intoxicated individual who was trespassing on campus. When officers arrived Harvey was identified and continued to act in a tumultuous manner. Harvey was charged with disorderly conduct and released on his own recognizance pending his appearance in the Madison Municipal Court.

MOUNT OLIVE

•At 9:47 p.m. on April 4, Officer Andrew Spotts and Cpl. Matthew Gumann responded to Main Street in Flanders for a report of a large party. Officers met with approximately 30 people who were out in the roadway and asked them to return to the house where the party was. While speaking with one juvenile, Spotts detected an odor of burnt marijuana coming from him. The juvenile turned over a bag of marijuana to Spotts and was transported to headquarters where a parent was contacted. During the investigation there were approximately 10 other juveniles who appeared to be under the influence of marijuana. These juveniles contacted their parents to pick them up.

•At 1:11 a.m. on April 5, Officer Thomas Cuff observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane on Route 46 in Budd Lake so he stopped it. Cuff detected a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle so he requested consent to search it which the driver denied. The Morris County Sheriffs office K9 responded and conducted an exterior sniff, indicating positively on the vehicle. At this point the passenger, Jessica Grance, 21, of Randolph, admitted to having marijuana in her possession and removed a bag from her shirt and turned it over to Cuff. Grance was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters where she was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia pending a court appearance.
