Expert to discuss genetic genealogy in Whippany

The Morris County Library will present a program on “Genetic Genealogy,” 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1, in the large Public Meeting Room, 1st floor, 30 East Hanover Ave., in the Whippany section of Hanover Township.

Bob Stein, a genealogist with more than fifteen years experience, will address issues discussed on such television shows as “Who Do You Think You Are?,” “Genealogy Road Show” and “Finding Your Roots with Henry Lewis Gates Jr.” On these shows, people solve mysteries in their ancestry by using DNA. But what exactly is DNA and what kinds of questions can it answer about us and our ancestors? Is there more than one type of DNA test and if so, which one should I use? Will I have to give a blood sample or tear out hair samples for the test?

Stein will address these questions and more at the library program.

Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Morris Area Genealogy Society meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month, September to May, at the Morris County Library.
