MORRISTOWN – Two people were taken to the hospital Thursday following a crash on Madison Avenue.

Police responded to the intersection of Madison Avenue and Franklin Street at about 11:51 a.m. Thursday after a report came in about a motor vehicle accident with entrapment, Lt. Stuart Greer said.

Officers found that a 2013 Subaru Legacy sedan had hit a 2002 Chevrolet Envoy SUV, which flipped onto its roof as a result, Greer said.

Emergency crews including the Morristown Fire Department, Morristown Emergency Medical Services and Atlantic Health Paramedics responded and treated and transported the occupants of the vehicles, Greer said.

The Chevrolet was driven by Rebecca Gero, 21, of Morristown. She had to be extricated from the vehicle was taken to Morristown Medical Center for minor arm pain, Greer said.

The driver of the Subaru Legacy, a 54-year-old North Arlington woman, was uninjured, but her passenger, an 82-year-old Rockaway woman, was taken to Morristown Medical Center for evaluation of chest pain, possibly caused as a result of the airbag deployment in the vehicle, Greer said.

Officer Brian McDonnell of Morristown’s Traffic Safety Unit investigated the collision, determining Gero was traveling west on Madison Avenue when she made a left turn onto Turtle Road, crossing in front of the Subaru Legacy as it was traveling east on Madison Avenue.

Gero was determined to be at fault based on the investigation and was issued a summons for careless driving, Greer said.

Madison Avenue was closed in the area of the collision for about 45 minutes, but was completely reopened by 1 p.m. Thursday, Greer said.
