PARSIPPANY – Police are at the scene of a minivan fire on Lake Shore Drive in the Lake Parsippany section of the township.

Because of the fire and accompanying investigation, Lake Shore Drive is closed between Englishtown and Califon roads and there is no access to Freneau Road from Parsippany Road.

In addition to police and firefighters, emergency medical service personnel and officers from the Morris County Sheriff's Department are at the scene.

The fire in the silver minivan was reported around noon Monday.

At about 1:15 p.m., sparks from the engine could still be heard underneath the red tarp covering the minivan.

Members of the Sheriff's Office's Crime Scene Unit were seen searching the grassy area between the van and Lake Parsippany Monday afternoon.

Police said they did not yet know how long the road would be closed and they advise motorists to avoid the area and plan accordingly.

No further information, including whether anyone was injured, was immediately available.
