MORRIS PLAINS

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3401 will hold a Clambake/BBQ on Sept. 19, from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Post, which is located at 45 Tabor Road.

Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door and the event is limited to 200 tickets, according to a press release from the VFW, which said there will be beer, soda anda live band.

CHESTER

The Knights of Columbus, Council 5410, will host an Italian Night Charity Dinner Dance on Oct. 10.

The event will take place at St Lawrence Parish Hall and will feature an Italian Gourmet meal, catered by Charlotte’s Web of Dover. Music will be provided by Rikki Starr Entertainment.

The dinner begins at 6:30 to 11 p.m. Beer, Wine and Soda will be included as well as dessert. There will be a 50/50 raffle to benefit local charities. Tickets are $40 per person. For more information contact George at 973-584-2083.

MOUNT OLIVE

The Knights Of Columbus, Council 5410, will be sponsoring a shredding event at its council hall on schmitt lane in the Flanders section of the township.’

The cost is $5 per bag (brown Grocery Bag) or $7 per box (copy paper box size), according to a press release from the Knights, which said that hard drives, if removed from the computer, will be punched destroyed for $5 each.

The event will take place Sept. 26, from 8 a.m. to noon. Shredding is limited to confidential and sensitive materials only. No binders or magazines will be permitted, the release said. For more information, call 973-584-2960, 973-610-1308 Or 973-927-9022.

ROXBURY

The Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce will host its 3rd Annual Roxbury Community Yard Sale at Horseshoe Lake on Sept. 26.

The rain or shine event will run from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m., at the Horseshoe Lake pavilion area and will feature food trucks, crafts, garage sale items, home goods and more, according to a press release from the Chamber.

Set up begins at 7:15 a.m. and must be complete by 8:45 a.m. Clean up must be complete by 5 p.m. Sellers need to provide their own table(s), hand truck, chairs, etc., the release said.

This sale was created as a community fundraiser for and by the Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce. RANDOLPH

The Women’s Center at County College of Morris has announced its 4th semester offering of Empowerment.

Empowerment is a 12 week program of interactive and engaging techniques and exercises designed to address these life enhancing skills and empower women in a supportive group environment, according to a press release from the college.

Created and facilitated by Jeanne Rohach, certified women’s empowerment coach & consultant, an Information Session will be held Sept. 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the CCM Campus in Randolph.

The course, for which admission is by selection and is limited to 20 women, will begin with an Orientation Session on Sept. 24 and continue on successive Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. through Dec. 15. The course is free for those selected for program admission.

A Poetry and Pastries open poetry reading is scheduled for Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at Cafe Beethoven, 262 Main St.

Listeners are rwelcome and the cost is $10 which includes flavorful coffees, pastries and poetry.

MADISON

Construction on Ridgedale Avenue between Central Avenue and Burnet Road is complete and safe for public circulation, according to police.

The best way to enter and exit from Madison High School is from Greenwood Avenue to Ridgedale Avenue, or Central Avenue to Ridgedale Avenue.

Ridgedale Avenue will be closed between Burnet Road and Oxford Lane until Sept. 9, police said. As construction progresses towards Park Avenue closures will change accordingly.

Student parking is no longer permitted on Burnet Road. Overflow traffic may utilize the Madison Recreation Complex.

Regarding the Central Avenue School, circulation and parking is relatively unaffected for the time being, police said. Walnut Street is accessible from Ridgedale Avenue via Park Avenue. This will change as construction moves toward Park Avenue in the weeks ahead, police said.

MORRISTOWN

Today through Thursday, Ridgedale Avenue between Lafayette Avenue and Abbett Avenue will be down to one lane in each direction during road resurfacing, according to police.

Lane shifts and detours will be in effect. Work will begin this morning and should be completed by Thursday afternoon.

Traffic congestion and delays should be expected, police said.

PARSIPPANY

The Attic: Antiques, Collectibles & Curios Show and Sale” is scheduled for Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old Littleton School House, 1780 Littleton Road.

PARSIPPANY

Morris Psychological Group announces they will be offering free screenings for depression on Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 50 Cherry Hill Road, Suite 102, Parsippany.

More than 1,000 organizations nationwide will be hosting National Depression Screening Day events including hospitals, colleges and military installations, according to a press release from the Group, which said that participants will receive referral information to local resources and agencies that can offer further evaluation and treatment if necessary.

Research supports the use of mental health screenings as a means of helping individuals identify symptoms that may be consistent with a mental health disorder, and to seek treatment if needed.

In the U.S., almost one in 10 adults has depression but more than half of those suffering never seek treatment. Screening for depression and other mood disorders is important as it allows individuals to identify warning signs early, and connect with the appropriate treatment resources. Early recognition and treatment offer the best opportunity for recovery, the release said.

ROXBURY

The 28th Annual Olde Suckasunny Day Street Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 12 along Main Street in the Succasunna section of the township.

The event is a street fair with games, live entertainment, musical guests, food, a book sale and more than 75 vendors, crafters and non-profits, according to a press release from organizers.

Parking is available at St. Therese Church, Lincoln/Roosevelt School and Franklin School.

MORRISTOWN

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum will host “Towpaths and Tenders” from 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Museum, located at 45 Macculloch Ave.

Children ages 5 to 8 and their families will explore canals by building a canal model to fill with water. Children will then create their own canal boats to float on the model which they can take home at the end of the program. Other activities will also help children understand what life was like living on the canal, according to a press release from the museum.

The program will also include a visit to the Museum’s current exhibit, “Canals of New Jersey.” The traveling exhibit consists of panels which tell the story of New Jersey’s two towpath canals, the Morris and the Delaware and Raritan.
