Woman dies in fire at Morristown home

MORRISTOWN – A woman died Sunday in a fire at her Shady Lane home.

An investigation into the death and the circumstances surrounding the fire is underway, according to a press release from Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Morristown Police Chief Peter Demnitz.

The prosecutor’s office did not release the name of the woman but said she lived in the home at 1 Shady Lane.

The cause of the fire was not provided by the prosecutor’s office, which said only that no other injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished due to efforts of first responders. No specific time was provided but the prosecutor’s office said “notification of the fire was received (Sunday) morning.”

Personnel from the Morristown Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutors Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to investigate.

The prosecutor’s office said that “further information will be made available once the investigation concludes and the Medical Examiner has conducted a post-mortem examination.”
