Roundup: Kenez’s 3-pointer at the buzzer lifts Mendham

Senior guard Brian Kenez hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lead the Mendham boys basketball team over Montville 41-39 in a NJAC-United matchup on Thursday.

Kenez finished with 13 points, four rebounds and five steals for the Minutemen (13-5). Senior forward Robert Annen had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. For the Mustangs (13-4), senior forward Erik Werheim scored 14 points and senior forward Jacob Coleman scored 13 points.

Montville and Mendham will meet again on Saturday in the Morris County Tournament quarterfinals at Randolph at 5:30 p.m.

Morristown 62, Morris Hills 47: Junior Rohan Walker led the Colonials (10-8) with 14 points. Sophomore Kevin Hoehn scored 13 points and sophomore Luke Haralampoudis scored 12. Senior Bill Morin led the Scarlet Knights (6-10) with 11 points.

West Morris 43, Morris Knolls 40: Senior guard Conor Barron scored 15 points to lead Wolfpack (8-11). Senior guard Billy Froetscher totaled 11 points. For the Golden Eagles (9-9), junior forward Hunter Kaldy scored 15 points. Senior guard Ryan Bornemann and junior guard Mike Chapman each scored nine points.

Chatham 62, Delbarton 44: Junior forward Colin McKenna scored 16 points for the Cougars (15-4). Sophomore forward John Burkard and junior guard Tristan LeMon each scored 12 points.

Morris Catholic 58, Parsippany 38: Junior center Amir Allen totaled 13 points, 16 rebounds, five blocks and two steals for the Crusaders (12-8). Senior forward Amir Hamilton had 21 points, five rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Justin Johannessen scored 12 points. For the Red Hawks (7-11), senior forward Ryan Orr had 14 points, four rebounds. Junior guard Declan Devens scored 10 points.

Boonton 61, Madison 47: Josh Smith led the Bombers (10-9) with 21 points, 16 rebounds and four steals. Chris D’Avanzo had 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Corey Kronenfeld pulled down 11 rebounds.

Newton 57, High Point 52: Senior guard John McDaniel led the Braves (13-4) with a game-high 20 points. Senior forward Aiden Black scored 15 points and Chase Cramer scored 11 points. For the Wildcats (9-11), sophomore guards Jack DeGroot and John Numann each scored 17 points.

Pope John 81, Vernon 43: Senior forward Moustapha Diagne had 13 points, eight rebounds for the Lions (17-3). Junior guard Sime Lisica had 12 points, five rebounds and senior guard Matt Zignorski scored 11 points. Senior forward Logan Costello led the Vikings (6-12) with eight points.

Hopatcong 57, Lenape Valley 37: Junior forward John McCloskey scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Chiefs (10-7). Senior guard Chris Marcinek scored 12 points. Senior forward Quincy Samson and junior guard Tyler Robertson each scored 11 points for the Patriots (5-15).

Girls Basketball

St. Elizabeth 59, Lacordaire 27: Senior forward Sierra Armstrong totaled 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks to lead the Panthers (4-15). Senior guard Mary Martine scored 12 points.

Morris Catholic 52, Cranford 32: Senior forward Kate Feeney scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Crusaders (16-2). Junior guard Stella Johnson had 11 points, five rebounds, nine assists and two steals.

Parsippany Hills 43, Roxbury 23: Senior guard Veronica Serkowska led the Vikings (9-9) with 11 points. Junior guard Rochelle Blair scored 10 points. Junior guard Stephanie Bogdan led the Gaels (5-13) with nine points.

Mountain Lakes 51, Chatham 43: Junior forward Grainger Rosati scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Lakers (13-5). For the Cougars (12-7), freshman guard Chloe Blanc and freshman forward Veronica Kelly each scored 12 points.

West Morris 51, Morris Knolls 42: Senior forward Sarah Singer led the Wolfpack (12-6) with 15 points. Junior guard Ilissa Webb scored 11 points and sophomore guard Cassandra Montgomery scored 10 points. Senior guard Jamie Barrett had 12 points and six rebounds for the Golden Eagles (11-8). Sophomore forward Krista Mitarotonda had 10 points, eight rebounds.

Montville 49, Mendham 39: Junior guard Kelly O’Reilly had 16 points and four steals for the Mustangs (10-8). Sophomore guard Jane Beiermeister had 13 points and four rebounds. Junior guard Ashley Gehrin scored a game-high 23 points for the Minutemen (12-5).

Jefferson 50, Wallkill Valley 31: Freshman guard Taylor Langan had eight points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and three blocks for the Falcons (13-5). Nicole Vassallo scored nine points. Sophomore forward Katie Bertoa had 11 points for the Rangers (11-10).

Lenape Valley 47, Hopatcong 44: Junior Maura Chozick totaled 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Patriots (11-7). Grace Connery scored 13 points and junior Eldina Kucevic chipped in 10 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals. Senior guard Julie Brennan led the Chiefs (5-12) with 15 points. Junior forward Dana Bibeault scored 10 points.

North Warren 55, Hackettstown 48: Freshman guard Kelly Vuz scored a game-high 29 points along with seven rebounds and three assists for the Patriots (6-11). Haley Lusby had a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. Kate Tagliareni led the Tigers (4-14) with 13 points. Amber Sagan scored 12 points.

Pope John 4, Gloucester Catholic 3 OT: Josh Mead scored the game-winner in overtime on an assist from Donny Flynn to lead the Lions (9-10-2). Charlie Spetz had two goals and one assist. Richie Halevy also scored. Flynn and John Spetz finished with two assists each.
