One dead in crash at Route 80 on ramp in Roxbury

ROXBURY – One man is dead following a one-vehicle crash on Howard Boulevard on the border of Roxbury and Mount Arlington, police said Wednesday.

The single-vehicle accident occurred just before 3 p.m. Wednesday. A Honda traveling south on Howard Boulevard went underneath the Route 80 bridge and fatally crashed into the wall near the on ramp to Route 80 east, Mount Arlington Police Lt. Edward LaBruno said.

"We're not sure if a medical episode occurred or not," LaBruno said. "But a witness, an officer on the scene, said the driver of the vehicle made no attempt to maneuver."

Nobody else was injured in the crash and the name of the victim was being withheld Wednesday evening until the man's family was notified, LaBruno said.

The site of the accident just on the Roxbury side of the Mount Arlington and Roxbury border, and Roxbury police conducted the accident investigation, LaBruno said.

The ramp from Howard Boulevard to Route 80 eastbound was closed for several hours for the investigation, but the ramp was reopened by 5 p.m. Wednesday, LaBruno said.
