If Morristown's Got Talent's Media Day earlier this month is any indication, 10-year-old Evan Boncelet will be dressed to the nines for the show in February, where he will croon "When I Was Your Man" by Bruno Mars.

At Media Day, Boncelet was wearing a fedora and blazer similar to what Mars himself might wear for a live performance of his hit single, which Boncelet chose to sing because it's one of his mother's favorites.

"I was singing the song around the house and my Mom said 'I love that song,'" Boncelet said of the reason he chose it for the competition. "One time when I sang it, she cried."

Boncelet has been in the audience for two of the last three Morristown's Got Talent shows and loved the excitement he felt in the Mayo Performing Arts Center. Now he's thrilled to be the one to take the stage.

Boncelet has been singing since preschool and performing in shows since kindergarten so being in the spotlight won't be anything new for him.

Boncelet plans to sing his heart out at Morristown's Got Talent, but singing is far from his only hobby.

"I love to play soccer, baseball, Pokémon, build Legos, I am a Webelo in Cub Scouts, I play the cello, I am a math whiz and I like cheese," Boncelet said.

At the moment, Boncelet is simultaneously preparing and telling his friends about the show, getting ready for baseball in the spring, and finishing fourth grade at Sussex Avenue School in Morristown.

If Boncelet wins the $1,000 grand prize, he plans to donate to the American Cancer Society.

"Too many people my parents know have had cancer or passed away from it, including my second grade teacher," Boncelet said. "I would keep some for myself for trying so hard."
