Burglary suspect sought in Madison

Staff report

MADISON – Police have released photos of a suspect in the burglaries of two businesses in the downtown area of the borough.

Detectives believe the same man forced his way into The Golden Cleaners on Waverly Place and the Madison Community House on Cook Avenue between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday, said Lt. Joseph Cirella,

The department’s Detective Bureau is reviewing surveillance footage that captured the suspect’s image and asking any other business owners who have surrivelance footage of the area to contact the Detective Bureau, Cirella said.

The suspect appears to be white and he has a coat with a distinct front; two rows of buttons going down the front, like a pea coat, and a hood which he had up, police said.

The suspect was carrying a back pack, only using one strap over his right shoulder. The back pack appears to be black or dark in color with a small insignia at the top of the outermost compartment.

The suspect was inside the Community House for an hour and when he left, he had an umbrella which he was not using prior to entering the building, police said. He then walked towards Main Street.

Both locations were accessed via forceable entry through a door and cash was taken from each location.
