Morris Plains co-workers Adam Casadevall and Joseph Biancola have been playing together for a few months and they’ve already landed a sold out gig, performing at the Mayo Performing Arts Center under the name The Lone Mass.

“The name is based on how much the population is growing and how advances in technology are bringing us closer online, but distancing us apart physically and emotionally,” Casadevall said.

Both Casadevall, 25, and Biancola, 23, live in Morris Plains and see Morristown’s Got Talent as a validation of the work they’ve done both as solo musicians, and for their band.

The Lone Mass will perform “Long May You Run” by Neil Young and Stephen Stills.

“We threw around a couple song ideas, and I thought about possibly doing a [Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young] song, until I stumbled upon the song we’re performing,” Casadevall said. “The harmonica, harmonies and guitar solo I felt would put us apart from the rest of the acts.”

Casadevall works in the Morristown High School tech department, and Biancola is studying music recording at the County College of Morris. Both also work at Bottle King in Morris Plains, where they discovered their mutual passion for music and eventually decided to form their two-man band.

Casadevall said Lone Mass has a chance to win if they do the best job of bringing “pure joy” to the audience. Biancola is more confident in their ability to win.

“Because we have talent,” Biancola said. “AKA, the name of the game.”

If they win, Casadevall plans to put the money toward a drum synthesizer to add another sound to the band. Biancola has other plans.

“All of the ice cream I can buy,” Biancola said.

The Lone Mass hopes to create some original songs, eventually an album, and play more gigs following the show.
