DENVILLE – A boat being towed by an SUV detached on Route 80 west and ended up on the highway Thursday morning, shutting down two lanes in the process, State Police said.

The boat with an outboard motor dislodged from a black SUV at about 11:12 a.m. Thursday near exit 39 on Route 80 west in Denville, State Trooper Zapusek said.

There were no injuries, Zapusek said.

The vehicle became disabled and "debris" spilled at the scene, according to TransOptions, the transporation agency for north Jersey.

The left and center lanes remained closed at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, but a tow was on its way to the scene at that time, Zapusek said.

Eyewitnesses on the scene said the boat was towed from the scene at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

At about 1 p.m. Thursday, New Jersey State Police shared a photo of the incident to their Facebook and Twitter accounts, having a little fun with the incident.

"Netcong car available for a boat in the roadway?" read the Facebook post. "This is a nice slice of life from Troop 'B' Netcong Station."

State Police also said the Police Academy training doesn't cover boats on interstates until week 20 and included the hashtag #BoatOnI80 in the post.
