JEFFERSON – Police have charged William Chasmer, 57, and Janet C. Kaine, 44, both of Oak Ridge, in the Wednesday morning robbery of the PNC Bank on Berkshire Valley Road, officials said.

Both Chasmer and Kaine were charged with one count of robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, according to a joint statement released by Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp and Jefferson Township Police Chief Kevin Craig.

A report of the robbery at the bank, made at approximately 9:40 a.m., included a description of an armed male entering the bank branch and demanding money, the statement said. The investigation led law enforcement to Chasmer's residence, where he was arrested without incident, and then to Kaine as an alleged accomplice.

Chasmer's bail was set at $250,000 and Kaine's at $150,000. Both were remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility.

The bank, located in the Oak Ridge section of the township, was closed to customers after the robbery so that police could investigate, according to Police Capt. Eric Wilsusen. No injuries were reported.

The bank is expected to be open for business Thursday.

Numerous law enforcement agencies responded to investigate, including the Major Crimes Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, the Jefferson Township Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Section, and the FBI.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Morris County Prosecutor's Office at 973-285-6200 or the Jefferson Township Police Department at 973-697-1300.
