Fatal crash in Long Hill

LONG HILL – An 86-year-old woman died after a head-on collision Sunday afternoon, police said.

Lillian Bartell, of Berkeley Heights, was traveling north on Mountain Avenue near Morristown Road when she crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Sam Cheng, 53, of Edison, at about 3:10 p.m., police said.

Police arrived at the scene and found Bartell unresponsive and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which they continued until the Long Hill Township First Aid Squad and paramedics transported Bartell to Morristown Medical Center, where she was subsequently pronounced dead, police said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Bartell may have suffered a medical incident prior to the collision, police said.

Cheng along with the passengers in his car, Ming Hsu, 56, of Gillette, Jenny Hsu, 79, of Gillette, Lili Wei, 58, of Edison, Jen Hua, 54, of Edison, and Mei Hua Feng, 57, of Edison were all transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries after the crash.

The Long Hill Township Police were assisted by the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Stirling Fire Co. , Millington Fire Co., Long Hill First Aid Squad, Berkeley Heights First Aid Squad, and the Liberty Corner First Aid Squad.

Long Hill Police detectives are continuing the investigation into the crash.
