Hanover cops: 1 tried to bring pot into court, another booze

Staff report

HANOVER – Two men showing up for municipal court in separate cases were given additional charges after one was found to be carrying pot and another alcohol, police said.

Kenneth Bolen, 44, of Morristown, was arrested at 2:48 p.m. on March 2 after he arrived for court and was passing through a metal detector when he was asked to empty his pockets into a plastic bin, police said.

Bolen dumped the contents of his pockets and a bag of what police suspected was marijuana fell into the bin, police said.

Bolen was then arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of legend drugs.

Judge Brian O’Toole set bail at $2,500 but Bolen could not post the bail so he was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility.

A few hours later, William Milligan, 43, of Washington, was passing through the same metal detector at 5:21 p.m. on his way to court when the officer monitoring the machine was alerted to metal in his backpack.

The backpack was examined and Patrolman Edward Zakrzewski found a flask containing alcohol inside. Milligan was charged with possession of an open container of alcohol, which is a local ordinance violation.
