Morris Twp. whistler just wants to entertain
It might sound like birds have taken over The Mayo Performing Arts Center during the Morristown's Got Talent competition in February.
But it will just be Joe Sodano, a 59-year-old Morris Township resident, showcasing his talent for bird whistling.
Sodano will also whistle the "Can-Can" at the show in addition to his bird sounds.
It's the only whistling act in the show, which Sodano said will set him apart from the other finalists.
"I have a unique talent," Sodano said. "But I'm not in it for the money, I'm competing because I want to entertain."
Not that he hasn't done well in the past. In 2010, Sodano placed second in Morristown's Got Talent.
He's also whistled at Gov. Chris Christie's Christmas party at the governor's mansion in Princeton and performed on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.
Sodano taught himself to whistle when he was four and was a finalist in the 2004 International Whistlers Convention Whistling Championship.
Still, Sodano said he auditioned solely because he wanted to perform for 1,200 people in his hometown.
