The latest in a series of profiles of the finalists in the Morristown’s Got Talent competition to be held Feb. 25.

Art of Play, the band of Morris County high school juniors, has made a name for themselves over the past few years through songs, music videos and live performances, including a previous Morristown’s Got Talent competition in 2012.

“We were part of MGT two years ago and unfortunately weren’t able to audition last year due to other commitments,” said drummer Tyler Volk. “We were excited to audition this year because it is such a great event and such a great cause and we love playing in front of our local community.”

The band also includes guitarist Domenico Randazzo, keyboardist Ricky Webber and bassist T.J. Coon. All attend Morristown High School except for Volk, who goes to Randolph High School.

In addition to practicing for Morristown’s Got Talent, Coon said the band has another major show to prepare for, the final round of the Stone Pony’s “Rock to the Top” competition on Saturday, Jan. 24, where they can win $2,500 and the opportunity to open for a main act at a later date.

“To be one of the last bands standing after almost a year of competition is gratifying to say the least,” said Volk, adding Art of Play was one of nine bands remaining in the Stone Pony competition. “We’ve put together a great set list and have been practicing quite a bit. We’re definitely prepared and hope the judges like what they hear. Regardless of what happens, it’s been an amazing experience.”

For Morristown’s Got Talent, Randazzo said the band has prepared an “upbeat and familiar” melody of songs that he expects will appeal to both the crowd and the judges.

Volk said while it would be great to win Morristown’s Got Talent, the band is more excited to play music for the crowd and raise money for a good cause, the Morris Educational Foundation. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have plans for potential prize money.

“My guess is Tyler would spend his share on clothes and watches, T.J. on surfing accessories, Domenico on a new guitar,” Webber said. “And me? I’d go to Disney World.”
