Roundup: Parsippany wrestling rolls to team title at Hopatcong Tournament

The Parsippany High School wrestling team had five champions and rolled to the team title at the Hopatcong Tournament on Saturday.

Parsippany (154) outlasted Sparta (102.5), Belvidere (89) and Passaic Valley (80).

P.J. Gohn (106), Kevin Jones (113), Stephen Persuad (132), Zach Kovacs (138) and Andrew Massefski (195) were the first-place champions for the Red Hawks.

Mount Olive Tournament

Pequannock dominated the field, coming in with 205½ points to outdistance Old Tappan (143½), Mendham (122) and Middletown North (118).

The Golden Panthers were led by Steven Pozce and first-place finishers (113), David Iodice (170) and Pat Daly (195).

Mendham’s Eric Friedman (138) took home Outstanding Wrestler honors after he beat Bloomfield’s Chris Palmieri, 5-0. Minutemen teammates Tim Byrne (220) and Alec Skaltsis (285) were other champions.

Kinnelon, which finished fifth with 78 points, was led by 106-pound champion Scott Smith and 132-pound champion Mike DeClario.

Dover Tournament

Troy Stanich (120), Dominick LaRusso (132), Richard Day (145), Craig Roumes (160) and Clayton O’Leary (220) were first-place champions for second-place Roxbury (148), which finished runnerup behind champion Lenape Valley (159).
