Hackettstown police charge man with DWI after crash

HACKETTSTOWN – A 29-year-old man is facing drunk driving charges after he crashed his car into a tree, police said.

Police and the Hackettstown Rescue Squad got a call on Sunday at 11:31 p.m. that a car had crashed into a tree in the area of Franklin Street and East Plane Street.

Officers arrived on the scene and found the driver Sean Marshall, 29, of Mansfield, sitting on the ground near the car and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him, police said.

The ensuing investigation determined that Marshall was traveling east on Franklin Street in a 2000 Plymouth when he left the roadway and struck a tree, police said.

Marshall refused medical treatment at the scene and was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to provided breath samples, careless driving and failure to maintain lane. He was released pending a court appearance.
